CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

SADDLERY DISPUTE. The Conciliation Council, under the presidency of the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. T. Harlo Giles), eat yesterday to hear a dispute Between the Auckland Saddlers, Harnessmakers, Collarrnakers, and Bridlecu tiers' Industrial Union of Workers and the employers. One hundred and fifty employers were cited as parties to the dispute. The assessors for the employers were Messrs. J. W. Wiseman, A. W. Blanchawl, and W. Hawkins, while those for the union were Messrs. D. J. Murphy. K. McNab, and A. Tilly. The employers were represented by Messrs. G. Knight and \V. Graham, and the union by Messrs. A. Rosser, Arthur Eyre, and' T. J. Parkes. Messrs. Mucky. Logan. Caldwell and Company. J. Burns and Company, and E. Le Boy were granted exemptions from, the operations of the award, as regards all clauses other than those dealing with wages and apprentices. A number of employers, on the application of the union, were joined as parties to the dispute. A 48-hour week was asked for by the union, and overtime at the rate of time and a third for ordinary overtime, and double rates for Sundays and special overtime. A minimum wage of £3 10s for journeymen was asked for, and piecework, except as regards collarmaking, wad objected to. Included in the demands were an underrate workers' clause, a nd a provision 7,»r 7s 6d per week us the commencing wage for apprentices, also proportionate allowances of apprentices and female stitchers to journeymen. For female stitchers a commencing wage of 7s 6d per week, and a final wage of £2 15s was asked for.
