Colonel Heard, Coast Defence Director, left for the south by the Main Trunk express last night.

Captain J. Baldwin, of the Karamu, Mid Captain D. Todd, of the' Navau, returned from Sydney by the Maheno yesterday afternoon.

Mr. and Mis. Ralph McLellan, of Chicago, arrived in Auckland by the Atua last evening. Thev intend to tour New Zealand, and will visit the principal touiist resorts.

Mr. William Jamieson, chairman of directors of the Mount Lyell Mining Company, arrived by the Maheno yesterday. Sir." Jamieson is on a holiday trip, and will leave for Rotorua to-day.

Mr. V. I. Teener, a resident of Buenos Aires, arrived in Auckland by the Maheno yesterday. Mr. Tegnor formerly belonged to Wellington, and" he will leave for the South to-night. He is staying at the Star Hotel.

Mr. W. W. Scott, accountant to the Auckland branch of the United Insurance Co., Ltd., left last, night by the Main Trunk express to take up the position of accountant at the company's head office, .Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sykes, of Huddersfield, England, are at present in Auckland, staying at the Star Hotel. They are on a holiday tour, and intend visiting the more important parte of tho Dominion betore 1 covin for Home.

Princess Charlotte, a young lady of 15 years, eldest- daughter of King George ot Tonga, arrived in Auckland by the At-ua last evening. The Princess has come to Now Zealand to complete her education, and she -will be a pupil at the Diocesan High School for Girls at Epsom.

Mr. F. H. Hulbert, of New York, arrived in Auckland on Satvrday from Botorua, after a tour of New Zealand. Mr. Hulbert leaves for the Islands by the Atua on Wednesday, and is staying at the Star Hotel while in Auckland.

Mr, Thomas Allen, of Auckland, returned home by the Maheno yesterday, after a 20-months' holiday tour of the ■world. During his absence Mr. Allen visited Canada, the United States, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Egypt. , , ;

The Hon. A. H. Barlow, lender of the Legislative Council, in the Queensland Government, arrived in.- Auckland by the Main. Trunk train on Saturday. Mr. Barlow is very* much, interested, in. this city, having visited Auckland in 1868, when the Maori War was in progress. Mr. Henry Cuthbert North croft, 1 on the application of Mr. Clayton, Mr. James Francis Hocking, on the application of Mr. Stanton, end Mr- John Hector Luxford, of Hamilton; on the application,, of Mr. A. Swarbrick, were admitted as solicitors.
