ANTARCTIC DISASTER.
REPLY TO SOOTT'S APPEAL'. GOVERNMENT TO MAKE FULL PROVISION. £30,000 SUBSCRIBED. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright (Received February 23, 5.5 p.m.) London, February 22. The Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith) has informed the Lord Mayor that the Government proposes to si provide for the relatives and dependents of the late Captain Scott and his four companions that their positions will remain as if the disaster had not occurred.
The various memorial funds now amount to a total of £30,030.
Lord Strathcona, Lord Howard de Walden, Sir Edgar Speyer and Mr. Reginald Smith have contributed £1000 apiece to the fund.
