Sir Robert Anderson, 'formerly head of the Criminal Investigation Department, suggests that a Bill should be passed declaring the window smashers to be criminal lunatics, and that they should be sent to the asylums. An Australian, writing to the Daily Telegraph, suggests that the " hunger strikers" be supplied with salt water for washing purposes and a diet of milk gruel. He says that it is easy to go hungry, but that no one can withstand the pangs of thirst.
Some of the newspapers in discussing the problem of how to deal with the women, suggest the imposition of heavy fines, in addition to imprisonment.
