AUSTRALIAN SOCIALISTS.
CENTRALISATION POLICY. By TelegraphJ--Preas Association.—Copyrighjtf ' (Received February 21, 9.10 p.m.) London, February 21. In com meeting on the curious fact that the British Socialists are supporting federalism in regard to Ireland, the Morning Post says that the Socialists, who are in power in the Australian Commonwealth and, certain of the State Governments, find themselves tied hand and foot by the States .which refuse to accept Socialism. '•■» ■■''' •">/■ ' : . t Mr Fisher, the paper says, made . a wholehearted denunciation ,of the federal system when he called the '. Australian Constitution' the worst in. . the world. Such an opinion is in accord with -the policy of Mr Fisher's ; Government. If their proposed re- < forms are accepted Home Rule will be abolished. Centralisation, it is added, is a necessary preliminary to Socialism. > The agitation in favour of fixing the rate of wages and the prices of ; commodities had forced the Govern- ; ment to enter upon a cycle of prepos- , terous interference which must end in failure and disillusionment. *
