DUKE OF ABERCORN. By Telegraph.—Frees Aioociation.—Copyright. London, January 4. The Duke of Abercorn died yesterday.
The Dukedom of Abercorn (of which the deceased was the second holder) was only created in 1868, but the holder who has just died came of a long lino of peers, the Barony of Paisley, which he held, having been created as far back as 1587, and the Earldom of Abercorn in 1606. The late duke, who was 74 years of age, was best known in sporting circles, and as a friend of King Edward when Prince of Wales. His most important public service was as chairman of the British South Africa Company. The late duke's eldest son and heir is the Marquis of Hamilton, Unionist M.P. for the city of Londonderry.
