APPLICATIONS UNDER NEW LAW* ' '„ ... ;,_ _.r.. ./.. t ,:Lc^- :; y^i Feom all .. parts: of the Auckland district applications are being made by Crown tenants who wish, to acquire the freehold of their flections. Some of them have en- * tered into correspondence with the Land Department, and others have . made-in- . quiries personally. No progress baa • yet V been made towards satisfying their de- ; : mands as the regulations under the new;'-.".?■;; land laws have not yet been published, and meantime the applicants ', are being asked to wait until information • can bo given them regarding the conversion of their tenure. •It was claimed by the Government that Crown settlers < would eagerly avail themselves of the opportunity I given them to acquire a secure tenure of their sections, and the interest already displayed in the operation of the new Act shows that tho land policy of the Govern- ■■• ment is viewed with marked favour by those who aro most intimately affected by it. A point that may not bo generally observed is that tenants occupying settlement lands on tha Icase-in-perpetuity tenure are now enabled to convert their leases into renewable leases, and having ; done this, can acquire the freehold.
