RETURN OF CASES DEALT WITH. [Bt TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. A return', presented to Parliament on the motion of Mr. Witty (Riccarton), the number of cases dealt with up to August 25 for non-compliance with the provisions of the Defence Act. Up to that date 1547 summonses liai been issued, 1109 cases had been dealt, with by the magistrates, and 675 actual ■convictions recorded; 439 cases had been withdrawn by tho Department-, and five persons wero in prison for the first time (none for the second time).
