RETIREMENT OF CAPTAIN DUDER.

HARBOUR BOARD'S Till BUTE.

Tin-; approaching retirement of Captain A. Dudcr from the- position of harbourmaster for the port of Auckland was mentioned at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday, when the Pilotage Committee recommended (a) " That' the Board place on record its appreciation of the faithful and able services rendered by Captain A. Dudor in his capacity as harbourmaster for the port of Auckland during tho past 19 years, throughout which term the administration of tho Harbour Department devolved upon him, and during which period the shipping of the port has quadrupled in volume;'' (b) "That the present sick leave to Captain Dudcr be extended to December 31, 1912, from which date he bo granted 12 months' leave of absence on full pay, and at the expiration of which timo he be relieved from his duties'."

Mention was nuide of the strenuous work Captain Duder had had to do. and the chairman of tho Board (Mr. ,7. IT. Gunson) said that in future, arrangements would bo made to obviate the necessity for the harbourmaster to be on call day and night. The report was unanimously adopted. Captain Sergeant was appointed actingharbourmaster and chief pilot.
