WOMEN AND POLITICS.

PROGRESS OF THE REFORM LEAGUE. The increased interest being taken by the women of to-day in matters political is evidenced by the phenomenal progress made by the Auckland Women's Political Reform League since the first steps for its formation were taken, not quite four months ago. During that time the district executive, comprising a president (Mrs. J. P. Campbell), two vice-presidents (Mrs. D. W. McLean and Mrs. N. Von Stunner), an honorary treasurer (Mrs. J. M. Brighkm), an hone-Vary secretary (Mrs. F. G. Ross), and a delegate from each of the branches, has been very active. The membership now numbers* no less than 400.

The first 6teps were taken by Mrs. Von Sturmer, at whose instigation a meeting was held, and an executive elected, while she herself \\\s appointed honorary organiser. Subsequently, on August 28, a public, meeting was called, when it was decided to form branches and sub-branches throughout tho different electorates. Since then six —namely, Grey Lynn', Manukau, Waiteraata, Parnell, Eden, and City West—have been brought into being, while steps are now being taken to form branches in City Ea6t and City Central. Briefly stated, the objects of tho league are to secure prudent and honest administration, to maintain the freedom of the politicial conscience, to encourage the candidature of honourable and capable men, to assist wise measures dealing with women and children; in fact, to support the present Administration. The league has beer; provided with offices in the recentlyopened Reform Club's rooms, where all business in connection with the organisation is transacted. i
