It continues to yield good prospects of gold by mortar test. In the Golden Cross mine, Waitekauri, the width of the reef passed through during the week at the intermediate level was 10ft. Tho manager reports that the average value of the assays is good. Arise has been started from the low level, and a small stringer about Ift wide lias been, met with which is, in the manager's opinion, a dropper off the reef, giving fair prospects in the dish. The winze on No. 2 reef in the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, is«now down 38ft below the 70ft level. Good country is still being penetrated and the reef broken down during the week showed ffbod dabs of gold. In the south drive on No. 2 reef the south-east branch, of the reef has been stripped for about 6f but no quartz was broken from the face, lho reef in the continues about the same, gold being seen in the ore at each breaking down. Twenty-five pounds of picked stoned was taken from the general ore broken last week. No. 4 rise is now up 76ft. At this point the reef continues to show improvement, there'being "6ft: of quartz :heavily charged with sulphides and zinc blende. Next week the manager intends putting on J two shifts ior the purpose of reaching the point; where it ■is" proposed to open out for an intermediate. level-as' speedily as' possible. The etopo on the western Parallel reef is in hand. as. usual, and a good supply of ore is being won for treatment. On middle Parallel reef the drive is in 55ft.'1 The lode in both faces looks well and is of largo dimensions. "A" piece of sulphide ore from the western Parallel lode in No. 4 ; rise, above the Royal Charter Sunbeam horizon, may bo seen at the office of the secretary, Mr,, W. J, Nicholl.
