POLICE COURT NEWS.

Six men were brought before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday, charged with drunkenness. They were fined 10s each. Edward Jacobson, who deserted from his ship, tho Rakiura, on September 14, was ordered to rejoin the whaler at Auckland. No punishment was inflicted. Johann Kristian Sunderholm, a seaman, absented himself without leave from his ship, the Eos, on Monday. The barque being about to sail, he was ordered to reioin her immediately. John Hamilton Wilson, charged with failure to comply with a maintenance, order in respect to an illegitimate child, was sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment, the -warrant to be suspended if he pays 123 6d a week Alexander MacdonaJd was charged with disobeying a maintenance order. His counsel explained that there were separate orders of £1 and 10s, payable to an Industrial Home, where there were two children, and to the wife, who had the care of three children. Ho pleaded for the cancellation of the order in favour of the home. Mr. Cutten pointed out that the warrant for arrest was a question of arrears, and not one of amount of order. While accused paid 15s a, week, he would hold the case, over, at any rate for a month.

John Lupton, a sexagenarian, was charged with failure to comply with a maintenance order in respect to his wife, Marion Lupton. He stated that he was unable to work long hours, and had only earned £22 in the last 26 weeks. Ho had only come out of tho hospital last Monday fortnight, as the result of an accident while at work. Mr. Cutten promised to cancel tho arrears and reduce the maintenance order to 7s 6d a week.

Alfred Wynn, defended by Mr. Hackett, appeared, charged with disobeying an order for maintenance in respect to his wife, molesting her by watching and besetting her dwellinghouse, and trespassing on land occupied by her. Accused lodged a counter application, applying for the discharge of the maintenance order by reason, of cohabitation with his wife. The case was adjourned until Friday morning.
