'• The Iron : Duke was laid down at Portsmouth on January 15 last. Her armament will consist of 10 13.5 in guns of the new design, firing a shell of 14001b, as compared with one of 12501b for the 13.5 in guns of the Orion class. There will be a powerful secondary battery of 6in guns. The ship, will hare a displacement of 2"5,000 tons, and a length of 680 ft.. Her construction will, in several particulars, be different from the. types at present afloat. .' Noticeable alterations will be that ahe will only carry bno mast and two smoke stacks. The trip«fi mast system has been abandoned, and-hep single mast will be stayed with wire rigging* The new battleship will be fitted with balancing tanks, to counteract rolling, and J will also have submarine telephones ati tached. The speed will be. 22 knots an ! hour. A sister ship, the Marlborough, it? to be lauhohed. on October 26.
