NEW LYNN ITEMS.
The Mutual. Improvement Society held a. very enjoyable " Poets" evening on Thursday. Mr. G. Yealbury was followed by Mr. 11. S. Barrett, and Mr. Pyko gave some interesting gems from Shakespere. The Rev. C. A. Lyon gave a. sketch and illustrations from Wordsworth. Next Thursday a debate will take place with tlio Henderson Society, the subject being " Freo Trade v. Protection." The president (Mr. Thorn) wishes it to be known that the library is now available, not only to members of the society, but also to others. A largo number of new books are being secured in the near future. It hatj been agreed to consider the advisability of forming an orchestra-. A public presentation of a purse of sovereigns and an illuminated address will "be mado to Mr. N. M. Harry, retiring stationmaster and postmaster, on Friday evening, October 4. Mr. Harry has become very popular during a number of years that lie ably filled the above posilions.
