At Geelong (Victoria) the automatic telephone service is in operation, and in view of the proposal that the system be installed in Auckland and the other NewZealand centres the following from the Melbourne Age will be of interest:—"The Federal 1 Postmaster-General (Mr. Fraser) paid a visit to Geelong and made a thorough inspection of the automatic telephones at the local exchange. - He also made calls at local business houses, and tested theefficacy of the automatic system by making use of the telephones at* those establish* ment«. Several residents whom he interviewed informed him that they found the new method a great improvement oh -the old, to which, they would not revert 011 any account. The Postmaster-General did not say what his opinions were, but lie must nave been favourably impressed. If that | be so the automatic telephones will be inI stalled in other centres."
