NEW WAITAIA.

„The manager of the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, telegraphed yesterday: — "Very fine, ore coming to hand from slope. New Waitaia reef, Ift thick. Bands of gold lin to 2in wide showing throughout." In his weekly report the manager states that the north drive has been advanced 12ft for the week, making a total distance of 110 ft past the main rise. The reef showed over 2ft wido early in the week, but is 6in to Sin at present. The stone is very kindly and prospects well, and can saffely be classed as high grade ore. Tho stopo started from the main :riso south is along 35ft. Tho reef was taken down up to the first pass, and yielded splendid ore, bands of coarse gold showing through a good portion of it. i The "reef is also stronger and more uniform than it was in the leading stope. Gold is still showing along tho back, the reef averaging 12in wide. The leading stopo has also been carried back south (over the new points) a distance of 15ft, and another shift or two will square it up to tho face of tho drive.

NEW SYLVIA. .The following telegrams were received yesterday from the manager of (ho New Sylvia mine, Thames: "Stope above No. 3 level, 101b picked stone. Tho reef is heavily mineralised." "Assay in No. 3 level is £1 16s, and in (he stope £6 65." TAIRUA. The face on the Punon reef at the Tairua mine, Tairua, is now in 93ft, having been advanced 6ft for tho week. The reef is mullocky, but carries well for a width of 2ft, the value at present being oOs per ton. The stope on the western reef lias , been advanced ; 12ft and should connect with the old workings in another week. This will improve the ventilation and enable work# to be resumed where values were obtained some weeks ago. BREMNER'S FREEHOLD. '•

The manager of Bremner's Freehold mine reports that the south stope on Bremner's No. 1 reef has been extended 4ft for tho week. Tho reef in the face is at present about 2ft wide, and at the last breaking down 81b of picked ore was obtained. The new crosscut lias been driven a further distance of sft, and about another 19ft or 20ft should have Martin's reef in hand. •No work has-been done in the north stope during the past week.

HANDSWORTII UNITED. At the Handsworth United mine, Kuaotunu, No. 7 stope has now been carried along 35l't. The manager reports that the lead is well defined, and yielded a little picked stone through the week. The rise started over the western . drive is up 7ft, with timber and pass in position. The lead prospects very poorly so far. Driving on the new lead off tho western drive has been advanced sft for the week, the country being tough, with a good deal of brown flint in evidence. This, however, should be passed through in a few feet, and better progress made.

0 MOUNTAIN KING.

The manager of tho Mountain. King mine, Ivuaotunu, reports that the main north drive has been extended 4ft during the week. After passing through the break the quartz came together -and formed a nice body of stone about 4ft, showing no hangingwall. Colours of gold were seen in tlie stone, and the reef looks very promising at present. In tho stopes above No, y 5 level, No. 3 slope was extended loft north to the break, and in breaking down the stone looked well, showing a few colours -of gold. No. 4 stope south has been stopped, the. reef thrown into tho footwall side, and a drive started to pick up the reef again in that direction. No. 3 stope south of the main rise lias been started and good crushing dirt is coming to hand from this stope. The rise above No. 4 level has broken, through to tho stope above. On breaking through a reef of about 3ft wide was exposed, showing nice blotches of gold in tho solid stone. The manager estimates that it will take about two more, weeks to square up the rise and stope for working.

WAIIII WARDEN'S COURT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] Waiju, Wednesday. A sitting of the Warden's Court was held before Mr. F. V. Frazor (Warden) this morning, when tho following mining applications were dealt with —Waihi Reefs Consolidated, for six months' protection for tho Favona-, Brilliant, and Key West claims, and for a special site and six months' protections for four special sites. Tho applications were granted. The Waihi Standard Gold Mining Company applied for a dredging claim near tho Salvation Battery. To this application, objections were lodged by the Waihi anil Waihi Grand J auction Gold Mining Companvs. Mr. Hogbin (Messrs. Porrit and Mueller) appeared for the applicant company, and Mr. W. M. Jackson represented the objectors. In the course of las contention, Mr. Jackson hold that in terms of the Mining Act the Waihi Company had been, granted a title to the area, and this gavo them tho absolute and solo right to the uso of the ground and the winning of tho gold contents of tho claim. Certain surface rights might bo granted to a second party, but only ono party could havo the exclusive right to tho gold. Counsel for the applicant company held that tho Waihi Company only hold tho title to a. special quartz claim, and not) tho exclusive light to. or uso of, a river or stream which might ran through it. IJis Worship paid, it did not appear likely as the matters stood that the applicants would succeed, but there was something in the contention advanced, and he would give his decision at tho next sitting of the Court.
