QUESTION OF PREFERENCE.

O.ve of the most important questions to be discussed at the conference ,of the various branches of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, which opens in Wellington on July 30, is that of preferential rates on the railways, it being felt that this form of imposing further taxation upon imported goods is unfair to the country workers. A remit upon this question is to bo forwarded by the recentlyformed Hah'ini branch of the union, which will also urge that the present high freight rates upon benzine should be reduced.
