CARRIED TO THE HOSPITAL.

MOTOR CAR'STICKS IX THE MUD.

Ax old man named Joseph" McGnlnness, residine in Grey-street, met with an accident in Wellesley-streefc West at about seven p.m. yesterday. He was crossing the road opposite the Federal Hall, and apparently, failed to sea an approaching tramcar coining down tie lull- When the car was upon him ho appeared to fall against the side of it, and was knocked backwards into the road. The- motorman pulled the car up promptly and MeGuinness was carried to the pavement, where ft shopkeeper accommodated him with a chair. His injuries comprised a scalp wound on the back of the head, and slight injuries to Ids left hand. Medical aid was summoned, and a taxicab requisitioned to convey the injured man to the hospital. Unfortunately the driver of the taxi-cab instead of crossing Grafton Bridge, went down Khyber Pass Road, and 'wlien Park Road was reached it was discovered that the portion of the road leading to the hospital was closed against vehicular traffic. Tiie driver accordingly continued down the lower portion of Carlton Gore Road, but before he had gone 100 yds, the car sank over the footplates in soft, yielding mud. All efforts j to extricate the car proved fruitless, and the injured man had to be taken from the car and carried to the hospital. After over four hours' work, the wheels of the stranded motor were dug from the mud. The aid of another motor car, and a long tow-rope, bad to be obtained before the vehicle could be dragged safely on to firm ground. The motor sustained no serious damage.
