A WELL-KNOWN MISSIONARY
DEAD.

London, July 26. The death is announced of the Rev. Griffith John, the well-known mission worker in China, at the age of 80 years.
The Rev. Griffith. John, -who was well known as a missionary and translator of Biblical works, was born at Swansea in 1831. He began to preach in Welsh when only five years of age, and 'in 1855 ho was ordained as a missionary and sailed for Shanghai. Ho established, with his colleagues, more than 100 mission stations in China, and planted scores of churches. Ho also translated into Chinese the whole of the New Testament .'md a large portion of the Old Testament. During 55 years he was home on furlough only thrice, and only about five years during that time was spent out of China.
