Tho shipments by these,, '; two steamers, according to reports, arc not heavy, and it would appear that the market ill bo in short supply for some time. Iho Southern market is very strong. Orders aro still coming in from Australia. So far there has been very little trouble in landing ; shipments in Sydney. The price is £7 10s. Onions: Reports from Christchurch inform us that stocks there are practically V exhausted. Prices in Melbourne are very high, Thero is a small quantity of Japanese - onions coming forward, but in all probability - ; merchants will find it better business to sell :in Australia. There is no doubt that there will be a shortage until the San Francisco onions arrive, the first shipment of which is due at tho end of August. Picked-over f onions are now selling at £16. Oats: Tho market has an easier tone, hut there is very little business passing. Arrivals from tho South are light, as merchants store stocks are sufficient for the small demand. Price, 2s lOd. Chaff: Stocks of both local and Southern are heavy, but the demand continues fairly good at £5 10a for local, and £6 for : : Southern. ' Fov?l Wheat: The market has nob. changed :to any great extent There is a very good 1 .demand, and stocks aro sufficient to meet requirements. The price is 4s 6d. ' Maize is still very scarce. A few ship- ., ments have arrived from th& coast, amongst which there was a little new season, which sold slightly under the price of old season. Trie ex store quotation is 5s 6d. Bran: A further drop of 5s per ton has • hi'en notified, and the price now is £5 10s. Good stocks are held here. ■Pollard: There is ample supply on hand, • and tho price has also been reduced 5s per Hon. Present quotation 13 £6 15s. .Flour: Tho market remains unchanged, and prices are still firm at £9 15s for •Southern, and £11 for local. • Fungus: Dry lots are realising 4d, but wry little is coming forward. : Flax: Deliveries. are extremely light. •The London market is still improving, and * "the prices are now g.f.a.q £20 ss, f.a.q. £18 15s, and common £17. - Tow: Any small lots arriving are readily ■taken over by local manufacturers.
