Lads Islington, whose children's parties have been celebrated even in London, gave a fancy-dress children's party at Government House,, the like of- which had not previously been seen in Wellington- From the very beginning the function was fascinating, and the marvellous and beautiful variety of costumes made a scene of variety such as is seldom seen in New Zealand. The hospitality was unbounded, and the Governor and Lady Islington, helped by Miss Cotton and Captain Estcourt and Captain MacDougall, devoted themselves entirely to the entertainment of their small guests.
