' A match between the clerical staff of the railway traffic manager's, office and a team representing tile locomotive, maintenance, and : stores departments was won by the traffic manager's department by 17 points to nine. Tries were scorfed for the winners by Hornibrooke, Wheeler, Aickin, and Aldridge; a goal ifrom the field was, kicked by Hornibrooke, -who also converted one of the tries. Mason and. In a telegram published in yesterday's IIEftAW), from our Cisborno correspondent, reference was made to an inquiry held by the 'Gisborno Rugby Union regarding an offer of- a place in the New Zealand League touring team received by Kaipara, the wellknown Gisborne player. In his explanation to the union, Kaipara spoke of having received a letter from J. Hall, asking Trim to join the team. Hall, who is a well-known Ponsonby Club reaver and Auckland Rugby Union representative wing-forward, is very indignant at his name having been drawn into the matter. He denies that he wrote' such a letter, to Kaipara, or made any effort to induce Kaipara to 'join the league. Ho adds that if Kaipara received any such letter bearing his (Hall's) signature it was written neither by him nor with his sanction. INTER-ISLAND MATCH. [BY TELEGRAM,OWN COimESrOSDEST.
