AUCKLAND POULTRY SHOW.

3 ■ a I HIGH QUALITY EXHIBITS. n' ' . , ! 1 THE LIST OF PRIZEWINNERS. 0 :1 The annual show' of the Auckland and , Suburban Poultry Association was opened s in tho Trades Hall, Hobs on-street, yester--1 day afternoon. Tho entries are not so large 1 as in previous years, as tho section demoted 3 to canaries and pigeons has been cut'out. Nevertheless, the quality of the exhibits more k than makes lip for tho numerical deficit, and tho judges express tho opinion that the standard is very much above that of previous years. Exhibits have been ' received from all parts of the North Island, including Napier, New Plymouth, Waihi, and tho Waikato. The North Island championships for . British game and Indian game are decided } at this show, and it savs much for Auckg land breeders that, despite strong competib tiou from all parts of the North Island, 3 they were able to secure champion honours a in each event, Mr. W. G. Mason, of Epsom, s securing tho British game championship, 1 and Mr. E. J. Copas, of Grey Lynn, the ' Indian game championship. Tho exhibits of white and brown Leghorns are the best 9 seen in Auckland for ,some years, the f colour and sizo of tho bin's being well-nigh s perfect. The black Leghorns, practically a . new breed, are not quite up to standard, . but are a big improvement over last year's f birds. 5 Tho American Leghorns are a very good f class, competition being very strongs * Minorcae are also a strong class. Recent ' importations from England of Plymouth Rocks make a very fine exhibit. Wyandottes 9 are good in all classes, silver being especir ally choice. One of the strongest, classes in , the show is Orpingtons, in which tho com- - petition is strong, and tho quality of a very . . high grade. _ r The judging was carried out very ex- > peditiously, and when the show opened at t ™° m - ah the awards had been made. The secretary (Mr. H. Tattersall) and the treasurer (Mr. J. B. Patterson) have worked hard for the success of the show, and 1 deserve ©very praise for their efforts. The ? show will be open to-day and to-morrow 3 from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. The following aro the judges Children's competition, dressed dolls: Miss Seon (Smith and Caughey's). Painting: Mr. A. Schmitt.
