REMUERA RATEPAYERS.
AN ASSOCIATION FORMED. A. irEExrs'o of . Remnera ratepayers was held last night in St. jVidan's Hall, Remuera, to consider the advisability of forming an association. It -was resolved to form an association, and on the motion of Mr. Erni Bond, Mr. H. K. Hanna was elected to the chair. Mr. Hanna, on taking the chair, said he considered that if any member of the association was elected to the Road . Board he should retire from tho association. He moved in that' direction, and the motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Bond asked what his position was, find was informed that he could remain so long as Re took no part an the proceedings. Mr. Bond remained in his seat. \,. Mr. A. V. Burcher was elected vicepresident. and Mr. F. Short, hon. secretary. Mr. Short said a number of the ratepayers considered that the time had arrived to form the district into a borough. After some discussion it was decided to hold consideration of the matter over for six months. On the motion 'of Mr., 0. A. C'awkwell, it -was resolved that a committee, consisting of Messrs. Spratt, Clayton, Dempsey, Moore-Jones, and the mover, be set up to consider the advisability of forming a borough, or becoming a ward of the City of Auckland. It was resolved to hold meetings of the association on the first Tuesday of each month. The chairman on behalf of Mr. Whitney (who was unable to be present) gave the following notices of motion: — (1) "That this- meeting of . ratepayers strongly objects to the Board roading the Lucerne Estate, and urges the Board to hand back all moneys received from tho owners of the Lucerne Estate and request the owners to do the necessary work themselves according to the by-lawe lately compiled and printed by order of the Board in regard to the taking over of newroads in the district;" and (2) "That this meeting of ratepayers -views with serious apprehension the contemplated discharge of sewage into the Orakei Creek for two years, or until such time as the Auckland Damage Board's sewer and outfall at Okalui Point is completed, and that this meeting of ratepayers strongly urges the Board to have the Orakei Creek deepened to 15ft, and widened to 100 ft from the sewer to deep water in the harbour.'
