Watt, fifth engineer of the Navua, has joined the Rosamond as third in place of Mr. T. P. Seanlon. Mr. D. J. Burns has taken Mr. Watt's place on the Navua. Shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday the Union Company's coastal steamer Squall arrived from Gisborne; via Hicks Bay and Limestone Island,' after a somewhat protracted passage. The vessel left Gisborne at 10 p.m. on April 26, and, meeting very rough weather, she nut into Hicks Bay at 10 a.m. on April 27 for shefter. She remained there until 7 am. on Thursday last, when the weather having improved, she proceeded on her voyage. A few minutes ' before 1' o'clock this morning the Union steamer Tarawera arrived from Southern and East Coast port*, berthing at the Queenstreet Wharf. Leaving Dunedin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday last, the vessel made the usual calls at Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne en route, final departure being token from the latter port at 9 o'clock on Saturday night. Light variable winds, with smooth seas, were experienced throughout the passage to arrival as above. The Tarawera sails at 3 p.m. to-morrow on the return voyage to Southern ports. HOHENFELS AT MELBOURNE. The Hansa steamer Hohenfels arrived at Melbourne on Friday last from New York after a | passage of 57 days. An early arrival at Auckland yesterday morning was the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Wakanui, from Tokomaru Bay. The vessel anchored in the stream shortly before 7 a.m., and subsequently berthed at the Railway Wharf. Tho Wakanui will complete her Homeward loading at this port, and will load large lines of frozen meat, wool, tallow, hides, kauri gum, etc., for London. The local agents hop© to despatch tha vessel for the Home port at daybreak on Wednesday. j MAHENO FROM SYDNEY DIRECT. After a fine weather passage of three days 22 '< hours, the Union Company's turbine steamer Maheno, Captain D. McLean, arrived at; Auckland at 2 p.m. yesterday from Sydney direct. The liner berthed at the new Queen-street Wharf, where medic*! inspection was carried out by the port health officer. The. purser reports that departure was token from the New South Wales port at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday last, light variable winds arid smooth seas being met with on the passage. Capo Maria Van Diemeu was abeam at 9 o'clock on Saturday night, the North Cape being rounded two hours later. The Maheno sails at 5.30 p.m. ! to-day on the return voyage to Sydney. ANGLO-SAXON LEAVE'S NEW YORK. Cable advice has been received by the local ' office of the Vacuum Oil Company to the effect that the steamer Anglo-Saxon, 4263 tone, sailed from New York on April 25 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She has on board a full cargo of case oil for the ports named. The Auckland portion of her cargo amounts to 45,000 oases, whioh. includes 18,000 cases of benzine. The Anglo-Saxon is due here about July 4. MARERE LEAVES SYDNEY. In continuation of her voyage from London tho Tyser liner Marere left Sydney at 1 p.m. on Saturday for Auckland. The vessel, which is due here on Wednesday evening, has 2400 tons of cargo on board lor this port. From Auckland she goes to Napier and Wellington to complete discharge. NAIRNSHIRE REPORTED. The Federal-Houlder-Shire steamer Nairnshire left Capetown on Thursday last for Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin in continuation of her voyage from Liverpool. The Nairnshire is due at Auckland about June 17. PIONEER AND ENCOUNTER. According to telegraphic advice received from Cape Maria Van Diemen last evening, the warships Pioneer and Encounter, whioh left Auckland on Monday evening last to search for tho missing dredge Manchester, passed the cape bound east yesterday afternoon— former at 12.15 p.m. and the latter at 3 p.m. It would appear from this that the vessels have abandoned the search and are returning to Auckland. The Pioneer and Encounter may be expected to put in an appearance here eome time to-day. j MOVEMENTS OF MAIL STEAMERS. The R.M.S.
