Choice highly-coloured dessert apples, such as Jonathans and Northern Spys, hays advanced, also best dessert pears. Cook!ing sorts are neglected, with slow sales, 'unless samples nro really prime. Hothouse grapes advanced in the earlier part ,'of the week, best samples of Gross Columns selling well. Growers generally are 'holding back supplies on account _ of the •stagnation of _ the market, anticipating better prices ruling in the immediate future. Reports from London in connection with . the last shipment of New Zealand apples apparently are satisfactory, and may posFioly lead to a future outlet for surplus fruit from all the chief growing centres in the Dominion. '" Late prices are well maintained hero, with no alteration in Southern f.o.b. quotations. Onions have advanced on account of the steady demand from Australia, and a further rise is anticipated; stocks are light. Fresh eggs and butter are both l scarce and selling well; values remain at last week's rate. Poultry was fairly well penned, but a very large proportion was ,in poor condition.
