Regret at the death of Mr. Richard Monk was expressed by tho executive of tho Auckland Political Reform League at its meeting last evening. Reference was made to Mr. Monk as one of the finest friends tho Opposition party had ever had, and as a man, whose death would be iv id el v deplored in the Auckland province. It was agreed that an expression of condolence should be conveyed to Mr. Monk s relatives, and arrangements were made for the league to be officially represented at tho funeral. The funeral will leave the Mount Eden railway station, at one o clock this afternoon, and the interment will be made' at Symonds-street Ceremony.
The Prima Minister (tho Hon. Thos. Mackenzie) went from Oainaro, to Dunedin vfsterdav. He will open the new post office and the new Coronation Park at Balclutha to-day, and will deliver a political address this evening. On Monday he is to inspect some protective works at Balclutha. and on Tuesday will leave for Southland. His movements in Southland are not vet definitely settled, but he will attend st banquet to Mr. J. C. Thomson, M.P. for Wallace. Ho intends to go to the Otautan district , and will probrVJy be entertained at -a dinner by the settlers.
