POLICE COURT NEWS.

ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. At the Police Court yesterday, a young man, Samuel Finch, who appeared to be very shaky, was charged, before Messrs. A. Bruce and M. Casey, J.P.'s, that at Onehunga on March 10 ho obtained from Walter Jerome £1 2s fid, by means of a false pretence (a valueless cheque). Chief-Detective Marsack asked for a remand till Tuesday. He suggested, for accused's own good, that he should not have bail, but said if bail were granted it should not bo less than two sureties: of £50, as it was alleged that accused had been passing valueless cheques all over the country. Bail was allowed, in two sureties of £50 each. MISCELLANEOUS. Disorderly conduct while drunk cost Walter Harris £1, in default seven days' in gaol. J.-us. Maddock was fined 10s for insobriety, and a first offender was fined ss. Pleading guilty to stealing a saddle tug, value 5s 6d, from J. Macltay's saddler's shop, John Gaunt was fined 10s, in default 24 hours. Jaii Madden, who when arrested had only a penny in his possession, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment on a charge of vagrancy. Arthur Herbert was ordered to pay costs (£1 lis) for allowing his horse to wander in St. Albans Avenue. Jan Robinson was similarly dealt with in respect to a truant cow.
