For" tho past nine days very wet weather has been experienced in CoromandeL On Sunday morning' an easterly gale, with very heavy rain, set in, and continued all day and night. About 10 o'clock yesterday morning all ■ the creeks wero overflowing -their banks, and a ' largo quantity of heavy timbers were coining down. The Toads were flooded, and. boats were out on the Hauraki Road. The launch Cassy broke loose from her moorings, and was earned out to the harbour. , The etreet opposite the post office was J covered with water, and the water found its way into many houses in tho lower portion of the town. Mrs. S. L." Wilson and her two daughters were forced to seek safety elsewhere, the water in her house being over 3ft deep. Her piano and furniture were much damaged. Mr. H. Jones and family were taken out of their house by boat, and the McMillan family on the Beach Road wero also flooded out. Many others living "in the Just-in-Time Road and the Beach Road had unpleasant experiences. ' ,v,

The lower part of tho Kathleen Paddock and Hauraki Road were over 3ft deep, and those who had boats got them up alongside their verandahs. Tho wind and rain still continued today, but tho flood waters have subsided. Settlers from the outlying districts report heavy slips on all tho country roads. FENCING WASHED AWAY. Heavy rains have fallen. lii certain localities of tho Tangihjia Valley the river rose in high fresh, and flooded the surrounding country, washing. away a considerable amount of fencing, and carrying large numbers of logs- and drift wood on to tho main road. The new bridge, however, escaped injury, and its construction at a dangerous * point of the river is much appreciated by the stream of travellers which weekly passes between Whangarei and Wairoa.

In, the Okahu district "some slips have occurred, and blocked the roads, but no extensive damage has been occasioned'.

The downpours have resulted-in some thousands of logs being poled down the various timber creeks, but more rain is required to drivo the bulk of the logs to the jreceiving booms. It is reported, however, that 2000 logs belonging to the Mitchelson and Kauri Timber . Companies are now available ; at ,the Awakino, that a good number are : out at j Tangihua, and that a large number are on the way down the Mangakahia. ' ■ " V \ r
