THE BRISBANE DISTURBANCE APPEAL TO CARTERS FAILS.. By Telegraph.—Pregg Association.— (Received March.' 5, 10-15 p.m.) Brisbane, March' 5. Addressing the strikers, Mr. Coyne,.chairman of the Strike Committee, said that an important statement which ho had been expected to make would be postponed till to-morrow. Company intends to send the steamer Leura from Sydney to Brisbane with cargo. Other shipping companies are accepting cargo, and no difficulty is anticipated. Loyal workers have been granted double pay from the beginning of. the strike> to last Saturday. WHEAT SHIPS AGAIN IDLE, DARLING ISLAND MEN STRIKE, (Received March 5, 3.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 5. The wharf labourers at Darling Island, the grain-shipping centre of Sydney harbour, who struck during a portion of yesterday—looo men going out and leaving 503 trucks of wheat unloaded— struck work to-day. The trouble yesterday was over two German steamers that had worked cargo at Brisbane, the Pritiz Waldemar and the Schlesin. It was alleged that the former employed her own crew in coaling at Brisbane, and that the Schlcsin loaded a portion of her Queensland cargo with' free labour. At a meeting yesterday the Darling Island -wharf labourers decided to resume work this morning, except on ,i thesa two German ships.

In accordance with this announced intention, they made a start early this morn-! ing,* but later on held a meeting and decided not. to work while the Schlesin is at Darling Island. The Schlesin is being worked by her own crew. The union will discuss whether they will ever again handle wheat for'the owners of this vessel. There is renewed trouble in the Mount Lyell mine. A number of employees ' declined to work on Thursday, owing to a fatal accident having occurred in the mine on: Wednesday. When they reported for work' on Monday, they were, told that they -would have to sign on as new employees and await notification as to- when they ' would be required.
