BUILDING A NEW BRIDGE.
[BI TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIAIION.] Blenheim, Tuesday. The ceremony of driving the first pile of the new bridge over the Wairau River, near Renwick, on the Blenheim-Nelson main road, was performed yesterday in the presence of a large and representative gathering. Mr. R. McCalluni (member for the district) performed the ceremony in the unavoidable absence of the Minister for Public Works. The length of the bridge is 742 yards, and the contract price was £10,934, half the cost being paid by the Government and half by the local bodies.
