THE WHALING INDUSTRY.

NORWEGIAN VESSELS. [BY association.] Invercargill, Monday. It is stated that there is a possibility of the Norwegian Whaling Company's fleets not operating in Southern waters during the coming season, owing, it is- said, to the probability of their not being ready in time. Captain Hasle, the New Zealand Whaling Company's representative at {he Bluff, will go North this week to make inquiries regarding the possibilities at the Bay of Islands and northern waters, and it will be known in a few weeks what course it is intended to follow. The southern season commences in April. The first of Norwegian vessels will not arrive until towards the ©nd of May, and a great deal of work in the direction of the fitting out, of the vessels and establishing depots will then have to be done. Reports received from the vessels operating in Tasmanian waters state that the results, so far have been remarkably good. There is a great niovei*>nt in the whaling industry at present, and Mr. F. J. Sullivan, who returned from the Old Country to-day, states that he intends to instal whale-killing outfits on the vessels of his fishing fleet.
