SOCIALISM DEFENDED.

Sir,—l said in my last letter that if Christianity Were true it -would last. Mr. Ewington sends a long quotation to prove that if it had not keen true it could not have lasted. I have no time for men who always com© and bowl right across the wicket. Archbishop Redwood has put up a bogey, which he labels Socialism, and I wrote to point how absurd this is, when Socialism is a definite, clear proposition to abolish private property in anything which another human being needs whereby to live. I propose to mtiljo all these things public property, owned and used for the public good. It has no more to do with a man's religion than the colour of a man's hair. If the Cfity Council of Auckland owned the ga» and trams the price of gas and tram dares would in a short time bo less than ■half their present price, but men would not be charged less or more because of their religious opinions. They could stilt believe whatever they chose; the charges would be reduced one-half- Socialism says that the wealth-producers shall take the wealth they produce. At the present time they get about one-third. Socialism points out that if the workers were united they are the great majority of the people, and could demand that the world's wealth shall go to the world's workers. We still wait- for someone to put up a case against Socialism and Socialism is growing jlailv. ' Waihi. E. R. Hahtlet.
