The business portion of the gathering will be preceded at one p.m. by the annual luncheon.

A room has been set apart in the new Folic© and Customs buildings on the Queen-street Wharf for the accommodation of the tally clerks engaged at the port of Auckland, the ckrka to pay the cost of lighting and cleaning. The present Mayor of Grey Lynn (Mr. W. H. Murray) will be a candidate for re-election at "the coming Mayoral election Mr. J. A. Warnocfc {a member of the Borough Council} will also be a candidate. '

\n albatross, with the down of youth still on its neck, has taken up its residence in Christchurch. It was captured recently near Southbridge, where it had landed on the flat, and was unable to rise again. n The bird probably alighted there after a journey from the Campbell Islands. At a Hawke's Bay stock dispersal sale two natives, flush with the proceeds of a good wool clip, took a fancy to a, quiet, but reallv valueless little Jersey cow. When the'animal was offered they started to bid against each other, and,egged on bv some bvstanders. ran the cow up to well over £20—at least four times its ■value."
