REPORTED LOSS OF 172. By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright . St! Peteesbtteg, January 11. The : steamer Russ, with 172 passengers aboard, was lost in the Black Sea during a heavy gale. -, ! (1 , It is feared that all on board, including the crew, perished. M. Carlanuseff, Russian Consul at GalatZ; and his family were 'aboard the ill-fated steamer.
The Russ was, a steel screw steamer of; 2458 tons gross, and was built in 1897 by ; Sir Raylton Dixon and Co.,at Middlesbro , for the Dansk ' Russiske Drnpskcselsk Go. Her length was 314 ft, breadth 43ft, depth 20ft, and her port of registry was Copenhagen. ' / '•' ■'
