HOCKEY.
NOTES AND COMMENTS.
Hockey players generally will bo glad to hear that there is now every prospect of the long-looked-for pavilion being erected at Remuera . in time for the coming season. Tho executive has left no stone unturned to secure this, and a special general meeting of the association has been called for Thursday next to sanction tho scheme. The proposed pavilion will contain dressing accommodation and other conveniences for players, and should still further extend tho splendid progress of the favourite winter game in this city. Mr. L. H. Norton, hon. secretary of the Auckland Hockey Association, who has just returned from a visit to Christchurch and Wellington, reports that it is almost certain that Auckland will get an early dato for the shield match this year, while a popular feeling exists among Southern players that Auckland's representatives have a good l chanco of lifting the coveted trophy. The Wellington Association intends to send its crack eleven to Auckland early in the season, and the- meeting of the old rivals on local soil should provide an exceptional attraction.
