THE THREE KINGS.
NEED FOR A FOG AND LIGHT SIGNAL. MOVE BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The importance of having the Three Kings Islands and . the North Capo lighted and fitted with efficient fog signals is engaging the attention of the Chamber of Commerce, and the president of the Chamber (Mr. Leo Myers) has again communicated with the Minister for Marino on the subject. In the course of his-letter to the Minister! Mr. Myers referred to a letter he had received from Captain Waller, of the steamer Wimmera, drawing attention to the urgency of the matter. " Permit me," Mr. Myers's letter continues, "to recall tho report sent to'you in February last upon the evidence taken at the Conference held at the Chamber of Commerce regarding tho lights upon the northern coast of New Zealand, at which conference a considerable volume of expert evidence of master mariners and • shipowners, both oversea and coastal, was taken. In many cases the witnesses were prominent and responsible mariners, whose experience extended over periods of from 30 to 50 years. The report, based upon such expert evidence, stated that ' the erection in the interests, not only of New Zealand shipping but of shipping generally, of a light and fog horns at the.Three Kings is absolutely essential.' The evidence showed Leyond doubt the fact that the Three Kings, unlighted and beset by dangerous and treacherous gales, constitutes a danger of considerable magnitude. Tho evidence regarding the Three Kings was unanimous.
"On behalf of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce," Mr. Myers concludes, "it is my duty again to press this matter for your consideration, and I trust your Department will take action without further delay." '
