WIMMERA FROM 'SOUTHERN PORTS. The Huddart-Parker steamer Wimmera, Captain Wm. Waller, arrived from Southern ports at 11 a.m. yesterday berthing at the Queen-street, Wharf. The purser reports that departure was taken from Duncdin at 5.15 p.m. on Tuesday last, the usual calls being , mad©< at .East Coast ports en route. The Wimmera sails at 5.30 p.m. to-day for Sydney direct in continuation of her running. Owing to the labour troubles at Sydney, she will not take any cargo. for Australian porta. THE MARY ISABEL. Captain Johnston,.'of the barquentine Rio, informed an Otago Daily Times .reporter last week that he did not think there. was any cause for anxiety concerning the safety of the barquentine Mary Isabel, now 52 days out from Whangape to Sydney, with a cargo of timber. — support of his opinion, he recalled quite a number of lengthy voyages made by other sailing craft over the same "course, and suggested that tho Mary Isabel got into a belt of calms out of the track of vessels. He recalled the voyage of the Laira about five years ago, from Kaipara to Melbourne. She was posted " overdue," and put into Sydney after a passage of 64 days. The following summer the Rotumah took 42 days on a. trip from Kaipara to Laimceston, and on another occasion the barque Empreza, now a hulk at Pert' Chalmers, took 60 days on a voyage from Kaipara to Queenscliffe, where she put in for provisions during her passage to Adelaide. The four-masted! barquentine Titan ia once got absolu'ely becalmed for two weeks whilst making a similar passage to -Australia' some -.time airo. OPAWA PASSES CAPETOWN. Advices received by the New Zealand Shipping Company intimate that the Opawa, en route from Liverpool to New Zealand ports, passed Capetown on October 20. She calls at Albany to land a number of immigrants from the steamer Papanui. which took fire at sea and put into St. Helena. From Albany the Opawa comes to Auckland, and is due here about November 15. SYDNEY STEAMER ARRIVES. The Huddart-Parker steamer Victoria, Captain H. J. Kell, arrived from Sydney nt 6.30 p.m. yesterday, after a passage of 4 days 6 hours. The long time occupied on the voyage is attributed to bad coal, and to the vessel . being in light trim. Owing to the strike at Sydney she brought no cargo for New Zealand. The Victoria berthed at the Queen-street Wb.irf, where medical inspection was carried out. The purser reports that departure was taken from-Sydney at 12.30 p.m. on Wednesday last, fine weather, with slight southerly swell, being experienced throughout. The Victoria sails for Southern I ports at 3 p.m. to-morrow. THE SHIP AUSTRALIA. Although now 23 days out on the vovag-e from Wellington to Auckland, there is no "cause for anxiety as to the safety of the Italian ship Australia. The vessel left Wellington on October 5 ! for Auckland with the balance of Her cargo of tiles from Marseilles, and if the vessel had been favoured with good weather should have made the run from the-Southern port in anything from eight to 12 days. Being in light trim and having to contend with unfavourable weather and strong bead winds, she has in all probability been blown well out, of her course. She has not been sighted by any vessel arriving at Auckland from oversea or coastal ports. With a favourable wind, she should put in an appearance here at any time now. - AYRSHIRE ARRIVES FROM LIVERPOOL. At 7 o'clock last night the Federal-Houlder-Shire liner . Ayrshire arrived from Liverpool, via Capetown and Australian ports and anchored in the stream. The vessel left Liverpool on September 2, having on board over 400 first and thirdclass passengers. J. Page, who has associated with him the following officers—Chief, Mr. R. - H. Wynne; second, Mr. W. H. Smith; third, Mr. W. McKenzie; fourth, Mr. H. B. Tay. lor. Mr. J Stericker is' chief engineer, Dr, ,U. Cramp shin's surgeon, and Mr. P. Flynn chief steward. The Ayrshire has 3000 tons of cargo to discharge at Auckland,, after which she proceeds to Wellington, thence Lyttelton, Dunedin, and the Bluff .
