PAID PATRIOTS.

PARLIAMENTARY SALARIES.

LORD DUDLEY'S FEARS.

PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS.

. Bj Telegraph.— Press Association — OopytigHt (Received October 22, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 21. Speaking at Worcester, Lord Dudley, formerly Governor-General of Australia, said it would' be dangerous for the country if the House of Commons possessed professional politicians. There was some likelihood of this unless the electors were careful. The colonies were more engaged in money-making than was England, hence the Australians had a greater number of professional politicians, which was hardly good for the Commonwealth. Lord Dudley added that while England might follow the energetic colonies in many things, he hoped she never would in this respect. Some very democratic States had a body of politicians existing solely on their Parliamentary stipends. The Westminster Gazette says that if Lord Dudley had given utterance to such opinions in Australia, his Government would have been brief.
