CONTRACTORS' LIABILITY.

Stewart and Co., and Wm. Beardmore, Ltd. (both of Glasgow). •-- _ ' v ; j '.. The Court decreed vthat-:.the. two firms were jointly liable for £115,134, and that Stewart and Co. were liable for £225,043 in addition.V;
The sum claimed by the Johannesburg Council was about : £+00,000, \ the cause of action being, an alleged failure to complete the installation of an electrical . plant. The contractors, Messrs. Stewart and Co., maintained that the failure 'was due to" the ! instability of the ooal. Messrs. Beardmore, Ltd. (a we!l-!:nown- shipbuilding and armament firm) cam© J into the {action through having guaranteed Stewart and Company's liability to the extent of £115,134. ,
