ADVICE TO AUCKLAND.
BEINGS A GENTLE REBUKE. [BT tilegbaph.—special • correspondent,} Wellington, Wednesday.'The- member for Avon (Mr. G. W. Russel) 'i 6 very proud, no doubt justly • so, of ; his part in the administration of Canterbury College, as chairman for. some years of the Board of Governors of the College. This evening, when the Bill to amend the constitution of. the Auckland University College Council was before the House of Representatives in committee, Mr. Russell aspired to suggest to the Council what it should do in regard to the payment of students' fees, etc., professors, and lecturers. He hinted that the Auckland Council should " put its house in order," as Canterbury College had done. Mr. Myers (Auckland - East) replied that the Council would gladly put its house in order when new buildings were provided. Mr. Russell was proceeding to point the moral with some enthusiasm, when Mr. Myers quietly remarked that . three: of the four Rhodes scholars had come from the Auckland College. "Yes, that is very good," Mr. Russell admitted, . and very discreetly abstained from giving any more advice.
