CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

THE TINSMITHS' CASE.

Mb. T. Hakle Giles presided over yesterday's sitting of the Conciliation Council to inquire into the dispute in the tinsmith and sheet metal workers' trade. The assessors were Messrs. A. Burt, A. G. Harvey, and S. Parker, "for the employers, and Messrs. W. H. Raley, J. R. Pierce, and H. Hviand for the union. . The Council had the matter before it a short time back, but adjourned it. A number of Gisborne firms asked to be exempted. The Commissioner said the position as regards Gisborne rather puzzled him, as some trades had been struck out of awards by the Court, and others had been joined. Mr. Harvey stated that whilst plumbers at Gisborne did not compete with Auckland shops, the metal workers did. The Council declined to exempt Gisborne, and decided to refer the, matter to the Court of Arbitration. !
