HOSPITAL BOARD.
CONSUMPTIVES' SANATORIUM
PROPOSED SITE AT PANMURE.
A meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs. P. M. Mack ay (chairman), F. J. H. Ellisdon, M. J. Coyle, J. Jenkin, P. J. Nerheny, E. H.' Potter, J. S. Dickson, H. Schofield, G. Rutherford, F. Dye, and Dr. Guinness.
, Dr. Pabst, chairman of the Medical Committee, reported in regard to,, the question of a site for a sanatorium for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. The committee recommended the Knox farm (near Panmizre), as " the site beet suited for a sanatorium. Knox's farm was well and conveniently situated on volcanic soil, within. easy Teach of the train service. The elevation and aspect were good. Water was handy, and there would be no difficulty about drainage. The-4iouse for incurables would be adjoining—this would allow for centralisation of supervision and of nursing, thereby greatly lessening the cost. The " committee suggested that, pending the establishment of a sanatorium, the number of shelters at the Costley Home be increased. - The matter was held over, the Board deciding to visit the site, and also to inspect its reserve at Northcote, on a date to be/fixed. -
On the recommendation of the architect, Mr. Allsop, the term of the contract for the erection of the nurses' homo was extended for one month. '■-
On the recommendation, of the Finance Committee, the Board agreed., " That the Otahuhu Road Board be offered the triangular piece of St. Ann's Bridge reserve, at the north end, at £50 an acre, or (2) that the Hospital Board consider a proposal for the exchange of that piece, or of the whole 82 acres, for other land of equal value." The recommendations made by the Board, sitting as a Hospital Committee, with reference to nurses' salaries and grading were adopted.
