THE STATE OF TEE STREETS.

Sir,—lf any proof were required; to convince the City Council of. the. rotten material and method adopted in repairing our streets it would only bo necessary for them to, inspect Victoria-street West. This street has only recently, had an enormous* quantity of broken metal and blinding spread upon it (and in fact is still undergoing the process), and parts which were only- completed about a . week; agosare already?in a deplorable condition, all-loose on the surface with an: inch of two of fine dust, which is raised in clouds with ; , every passing vehicle or breeze. Who can wonder when there is no solid foundation of picked stones, the new metal being simply dumped on top of the old, with a large addition of fine screenings, which- is converted into dust almost at once. So tho ratepayers' money is squandered, and wo suffer in health by having our lungs and eyes filled with poisonous dust. - " ■ Obsjjbvbb.
