OCCUPATION OF TRIPOLI.

NO RESISTANCE OFFERED.

Rome, October 6. : It is officially announced that Italy has occupied the town of Tripoli. The Journal. d'ltalia states , that sailors landed from the warships Garibaldi, Varese, and Feruccio, and explored Tripoli. They did not meet with resistance, and visited the Italian Consulate and the church, where the Francescan nuns and monks were found to be safe. They found the city abandoned.

After the sailors landed at Sultanieh fort a number of. Arabs belonging to the neighbourhood proceeded to the flagship and tendered submission.

The German Consul-General asked the admiral to assume control of public order, the Turks having abandoned the town.

, Further detachments of bluejackets with guns and mitrailleuses landed, and the occupation was then completed without incident, the Sultanieh fort being garrisoned. Admiral Faravelli spared the Governor's palace. . 1 The bombardment did not injure foreigners or their residences. The Italians . buried the Turkish dead with military honours, and conveyed. 20 badly wounded to the fleet hospital, the Turks having removed the less seriously injured. ' * Those in the hospital declare that resistance was impossible, owing to the inferiority of numbers and equipment. r It -is officially reported that the Turks treacherously opened fire at San Giovanria di Medua, a small port on' the Turkish coast near the Montenegrin border, upon an Italian vessel'flying . the white flag.
