SOUTHERN* ■: BOAT A RRIYES. After a short absence from this port, the Union. Company's steamer Taravrenv arrived from Southern ports at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, berthing at-the new Queen-street Whsrf. The Tarawera has Just been reccmmissioned after undergoing survey and overhaul at Port Chalmers. She left Dunedin on Tuesday, afternoon last, calling at all the usual East Coast ports en route. Fine clear weather; prevailed throughout the voyage. Captain C. McLean, (late Hauroto) is in "command, his other officers being: T. V. Hill, chief officer; F. -Dinsmore, second; H. B. Hodge?, third. Mr. F. Pascoe (late Hauroto) is purser, while the engineers of the Hauroto have transferred to the Tarawera. The Tarawera sails at 2 ; p.m. to-morrow for .East Coast and Southern ports. ' • !" ■ . • SYDNEY STEAMER ARRIVES EARLY. - An early arrival in the stream at Auckland yesterday wag the Union Company's turbine steamer Mahetio. from Sydney direct, the vessel anchoring at 7.30 a.m., the passage across occupying 3 day a 16$ hour*. After' being granted pratique she berthed at the Hobson-street Wharf shortly before 10 o'clock. -: The Maheno was docked at Sydney this trip, and has now completed her annual ./survey. The .purser reports that departure was taken from 1 the Sew. South Wales port at 1 p.m. on Wednesday last, fresh southerly winds and moderate seas being experienced until noon the following day, thence fresh to strong easterly winds and moderate seas to arrival. Cape Maria Van Diemen was abeam at - 5.30 p.m. on Saturday, the vessel making the run from there to port in the good time of 14 hours,, averaging a speed of 15.7 knots an hour down the coast.
