TALISMAN.

£21,283 FROM 4380 TONS.

TOTAL TO DATE, £1,586,224.

The Talisman Consolidated Gold Mining Company during the month of September crushed and treated 4380 tons of ore for a return of bullion valued at £21,283 18s 2d. Compared with the return for the corresponding period of last' year, when 4000 tons yielded £19,112 14s 9d, last month's return represented an increase of £2171 3e 7d.

Sinking No. 6 winze, progress sft, reef 48in wide; assay value, £16 7s 6d. Driving north from bottom of No. 6 winze, progress 17ft, reef 36in wide; assay value, £9 Bs. Driving south from bottom of No. 6 winze, progress 20ft, reef 54in wide; assay value, £8 9s. The main incline shaft lias been sunk 6ft. Paid tribute for ore crushed £157."

' The manager of the Pride of Tokatea mine, Coromandel, telegraphed as follows on Saturday :— Crushed .3 tons general ore and 201b picked stone, return 470z retorted gold." The value of the return is estimated at £130. WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION. ROYAL LODE VALUE. The general manager of the Waihi Grand Junction mine despatched the following cable message to the London office on Saturday:—"No. 6 Royal lode, No. 5 level: The reef in winze No. 9 crosscut shows 564 in; value, £3 9s 6d.

BREMNER'S FREEHOLD. TWELVE POUNDS OF PICKED STONE. The manager of Bremner's Freehold mine, Coromandel, telegraphed on Saturday as follows " Breinner's Freehold, broke down No. 1 reef yesterday, secured 1211/ picked stone.". MAY QUEEN. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The manager of the May' Queen Company reports for the week as follows :— " The crosscut being driven at the 1000 ft level in the direction of the Bright Smile reef has passed through the tight country and is now in a splendid class of blocky white country with numerous mineral seams through it. The Exchange reef in the drive still* looks well, and the quarts; at each breaking-down 3hows nice dabs of gold. So far the lode that was passed through in the deep level crosscut has not Been picked up here, but the, indications now point to its being near at hand. More water is being met with, and there is a ciange in the underlie of the country. At No. 6 level the quartz being won from the hanging and footwall branches of No. 4, lode in the stopes continues to show gold pretty freely, and is of a fair grade. ' '

The contractors for the extension of the main crosscut at the 1000 ft level in the Thames Deep Levels have driven a further distance of 32ft during the week. The following additional dredging returns are to hand :—Golden Sun, 15oz 9dwt; Rising Sun, 40oz 4uwt; Rise and Shine, No.' 1, 320z 9dwt; Worksop, 86oz lOdwtj- New Trafalgar, 18oz. NOTES. The winze on No. 1 reef, in Dixon's Consolidated mine, Thames, was advanced 4ft last week. The country in the bottom of winze is a much firmer and better class of sandstone, and the quartz coming to hand is heavily mineralised. In the New Magnet mine, Thames, the drive on the Republic reef was extended 6ft last week, making 18ft driven. The reef when broken down looked well, and still continues to carry free gold. A start was made to put up a rise on the reef to test the values. No. 1 rise was raised sft. The ore from the hangingwall portions of the main reef proved of payable nature, strong dabs and colours of gold being seen.
