A CABMAN ARRESTED. 'ALLEGED OVERTURE TO A WITNESS. £0 r PROCURE FALSE EVIDENCE. • 'Another development of tie O'Shaughnessy case "was announced yesterday, it being alleged that an endeavour was made by John Brooks, a cabman, to persuade a witness in the ease to give false evidence. Acting on a "warrant Detectives Cox and Quartermaiu yesterday arrested Brooke, and at the Police Court this morning he will appear before the magistrate to answer a charge that he did at Auckland on September 5, wilfully attempt to obstruct, _pervert, and defeat the course of justice by attempting to persuade one Minnie Wlrittiilgham to give fake evidence in the Supreme Court, Auckland, at the trial of Martha Jane O'Shanghnessy, on a charge of murder- Mr Whittingham. was one of the witnesses summoned on behalf of the prosecution. It is understood that another charge of a similar nature will be laid against the accused. After the accused is formally charged it is probable that tie police will ask for an adjournment.
