The following is Mr. Bates's summary and forecast Very stormy weather and heavy seas have, been experienced on the cast coast between Napier and Akaroa Peninsula, aiso in Cook Strait. The weather has been cold, unsettled, ana showery generally, with high southerly winds in. parts. The barometer has risen everywhere. Present indications are for stormy weather between the East Cape and Kaikoura and in Cook Strait, with a south-east gale, heavy showers, and high seas oil the coast. The Clan Ross. en route from Bunbury, via Wellington, with a part carffo of hardwood, passed the East Cape at 7.45 a.m. yesterday. She is due in port early this morning', and berths atthe Railway Wharf" to discharge. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's R.M.S. Tainui left Lvttelton yesterday for Port Chalmers to continue her Homeward loading. From Tort Chalmers the Tainui proceeds to Auckland, and is due here about Wednesday next. HANANUI 11. RETURNS. The whaling steamer Hanantji 11. arrived in port yesterday afternoon from the Bluff, via Akaroa and Gisborue, after an absence of nine month?. During that period the Hananui .has been engaged in the whaling industry at the Campbell Islands. She experienced very heavy weather on the run from Akaroa, and put into Gisborne for shelter. The Hananui leaves on Saturday for the wliatling grounds at Whangamunui. and returns to Auckland about the end of December. _____ ROTORUA'S PASSENGERS. The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company is advised that a number of the Rotorua's passengers from London will arrive at Auckland from Wellington by the Main Trunk express this morning. The remainder will come on by the Hauroto, leaving Wellington this afternoon, and arriving here on Sunday morning. The Auckland cargo and passengers' luggage will also come by the,Hauroto.
