BREACHES OF AWARDS.
Several cases of alleged breaches of awards were dealt with by 'Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The Inspector of Awards proceeded against F. Gary, a tearoom proprietor, for employing a girl named James to do kitchen work, and paying her 20s per week, instead of 27s fed. The defendant pleaded iignorance of the award. A fine of £2 was inflicted. The girl James was fined 5s for accepting lower wages than she was entitled to. I). Morrison was charged with employing a second hand in the kitchen and paying her 25s per week instead of 30s. He was fined £2. A fine of 5s was inflicted on N. Phillips, the employee referred to, for accepting 25s per week. E. S. Wilee, a baker, was prosecuted for failing to pay an apprentice overtime rates. Mr. Moore, for the defendant, said Wiles was away from business at the time of the alleged breach, and although the necessary money had not been paid at tno required times, the apprentice eventually received what was due to him. The magistrate said the .breach was a trivial one, and ho did not think it was a case where a conviction should bo recorded. The case was dismissed. A charge of employing a plumber without making the employment through the Auckland Plumbers' Union was preferred against 0. Annett. The defendant admitted the breach, and was fined ss. A. Adamson, a grocer, was fined Is for transacting business at an hour when his premises should have been closed.
